Yeah you already know the story 😂. A starving struggling artist tryna make it, an urban environment in the background (in my case it’s the city of Detroit), a bunch of crazy odds stacked against him, a bunch of colorful crazy people sprinkled throughout the city, some who try to help me and some who try to use me. You know it’s that Eminem 8 mile story, but just 1 mile south, and opposite skin tones 😂, but the struggle is still real. Because one man was white competing in a somewhat predominantly black genre, while I’m black competing in a somewhat predominantly white genre. The art galleries, art conventions, and visual art world in general that is. Just instead of a 8 mile story, it’s a 7 mile story 😂. Even already got a talented friend in the art world who inspired me and gave me confidence that I could create something special. You know, it’s that artitst’s journey from struggling artist to master kingsmen magician like artist. It’s the journey. The process. I’m 29 years old so a lot of the journey has already been going. And I can’t say I’m all the way self-taught because I’ve had great teachers in the past. I had a art teacher who has a bachelor’s degree in illustration from CCS from K thru 8 which I’m very grateful for. I had an art teacher who had a similar degree in high school for 3 years. Then a couple of teachers at community colleges. I’m self-taught in the manner that I’m always continuing to learn in the form of books or YouTube videos. I try to push a Input/Output action on taking in info on getting better at visual art and then going to practice drawing as well. So, if y’all have the time follow me in my journey as I get better as an artist year by year living in the metro area of Detroit. The only other city I may move in the future is Tampa, but that’s because my wife wants warmer weather and I can’t blame her 😂. Anyways my skill level is far from an art master and I personally don’t see me reaching that until like age 90. My goal is just to enjoy the process and get better as an artist day by day. I have like 10 comic ideas that I want to introduce to the world and continue to work on so I can get it out into the world. I plan on joining an art club next year also to join sketch sessions so I can come out of social isolation and draw along with some people as well. So far, I have zero exhibition or fair appearances but as I grow throughout my 30s I would like to produce enough art to attend a couple. Mostly comic con conventions to start, but we’ll see about small fairs as I grow. Please follow along this crazy art journey of mine when you have time to pop your heads in to check for a sec. I’m about to start putting some of my black inktober 2025 sketches for sale up on Etsy later on in the year. Thank you and God Bless!!
